The West Coast has held on to its dubious record as the wettest place in New Zealand, albeit in the Southern Alps.
Niwa's annual climate summary, out today, confirms the Cropp River, near the Hokitika Gorge, had 11921mm of rain - 11 metres - followed closely by the nearby Tuke River, behind Ross, with 11,373mm, and in third place the Doon River with 9892mm.
At lower altitudes, Milford Sound was wettest at 9259mm, followed by Franz Josef Glacier 5235mm and Haast 4131mm.
