The mortar shell scare at the Henderson Police Station in Auckland is over, with the station reopening late this afternoon.
The station was evacuated for the second time in a week after a member of the public turned up at the front counter with a possible mortar shell.
Surrounding roads were cordoned off today after a woman arrived at the station with a World War II 60 millimetre mortar.
It was assessed by the bomb squad and found to be inert, Newstalk ZB reported.
The woman had purchased it two years ago at a garage sale and was highly embarrassed at this afternoon's outcome, police said.
