An announcement on whether Wellington International Airport's controversial Wellywood sign will go ahead is expected by the end of this week.
The proposed sign on the hillside around the airport has provoked strong reactions, including a drive-by protest at the airport organised by a 26,000-strong Facebook group Wellingtonians Against the Wellywood Sign.
In June the airport management bowed to public pressure and appointed a panel of individuals representing a range of Wellington interests and views to consider alternative sign options and "the details of a process to engage Wellingtonians in a decision between Wellywood and the alternative(s)".
An airport spokeswoman today told NZPA the panel's decision was expected to be announced by the end of the week.
