Wellington's camera car has been taken off the road because its benefits to road safety have been outweighed by the negative response it's received.
The parking enforcement car, which has been operating since August 2010, has now been withdrawn from service after a two month review.
During more than 18 months the car triggered 17,000 tickets worth $900,000.
Council spokesman Richard MacLean has admitted that the use of the car has been 'corrosive' for the council's reputation.
He says a lot of people accused the council of putting the car on the road to make money - when that's not the case.
