KEY POINTS:
Hospital workers in Wellington are continuing to work under pressure this weekend, as a code red status remains in force.
Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals are stretched to capacity and unable to take new patients because of increased patient numbers and staff on leave because of winter illnesses.
Capital and Coast District Health Board spokeswoman Robyn Toomath says all nursing courses have been cancelled and contingency plans are in place to get through the busy weekend.
She says a senior nursing emergency response team has been developed to support the nurses on the wards.
Ms Toomath says there has been a positive response from a call for qualified nurses to come forward and help out.
