KEY POINTS:
The evacuated tenants of a house in central Wellington which is threatened by a landslip still do not know when they will be able to return.
The slip happened at Athol Crescent near The Terrace in the early hours of Saturday morning after a concrete retaining wall gave way, leaving a four-storey building teetering on the edge of a slope. At least ten residents from two homes were evacuated.
Richard MacLean from the Wellington City Council says the large house on the edge of the slope is not thought to be at risk, but engineers are concerned about the safety of a deck that overhangs the slip. He says the matter of liability is still to be worked out.
"We're still trying to establish whether the water main work that was happening up on The Terrace in Salamanca Rd on Thursday night has a direct connection with the landslide."
