KEY POINTS:
Sea-side centres in the south-west of the North Island woke to an earthquake this morning.
The earthquake in the Cook Strait region, 40 km north-west of Paraparaumu, has been felt as far south as Wellington and north to Levin.
The quake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale at a focal depth of 60km and struck shortly before 7.30am this morning.
Over 20 households had recorded feeling the quake on the GNS website by 8am this morning.
