Central Wellington came to a standstill this morning after a bomb scare closed a number of roads.
Buildings were evacuated after a suspicious package was found at the entrance to the Trade Hall Centre on Vivian Street about 8.45am.
It turned out to be an abandoned suitcase and roads re-opened at about 11am.
A police spokeswoman earlier said the army bomb disposal unit was on its way to deal with the package.
In 1984 a bomb exploded in the same building, killing a caretaker. Nobody has ever been charged for the crime.
