A quake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale has been widely felt throughout the Wellington region and the top of the South Island.
The quake struck at 1.40pm, about 30km Southeast of Seddon. It had a focal depth of 30km.
The quake was reported by over 90 homes and businesses on the GNS website by 2.30pm today.
