Wellington's rail network is getting more money to upgrade trains and infrastructure.
A package deal has been announced to finish the rebuilding of commuter rail services in the capital.
It sees an additional $88 million of funding for signal work and a commitment from the regional council to spend $80 million to refurbish older trains.
Transport Minister Steven Joyce says it is a commitment from both the council and the regional council to bring Wellington's metro rail back up to a high and reliable standard
