A Wellington postie has dumped 3000 mail items, including 300 voting papers.
NZ Post spokesman Richard Trow told Fairfax Media an investigation has been launched and the postie stood down after the mail was not delivered over the weekend.
The dumping was isolated to the suburb of Maupuia, on the Miramar Peninsula, which has about 1500 residents.
The mail will be sorted and re-delivered with an apology, and the voting packs will be redelivered in time for the elections, Fairfax said.
