Police are investigating how a 45-year-old man sustained serious injuries in Wellington last night.
The man had serious head injuries when he arrived at a Main Rd house in Titahi Bay asking for assistance shortly after 11pm, police said.
He was taken to Wellington Hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police have not been able to speak to the man due to his injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears said police were still investigating the cause of his injuries.
"We are still attempting to establish his movements last night.
"It appears he sustained his injuries before arriving alone at this address. He was not known to the occupants of the house."
