The fog which caused havoc at Wellington Airport this week may come back later today.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled between Tuesday night and this morning, affecting thousands of travellers.
MetService forecaster Gerard Bellam said at present Wellington is basking in 27 degrees, but more fog may drift in although it is unlikely to appear before 7pm tonight.
He said heavy fog does not happen very often, probably only about half a dozen times a year.
Mr Bellam said usually Wellington's wind blows the fog away before it can cause too much trouble, and major fog events like this are very rare in Wellington.
