Fog caused the diversion of at least four Wellington-bound flights to other centres this morning.
Air New Zealand communications coordinator Lara Harrison said one of the airline's jets had been diverted to Palmerston North and another to Christchurch.
Two Eagle Air flights were also diverted to Masterton, she said.
Passengers aboard the flights diverted to Palmerston North and Masterton are being transported to Wellington by road.
Those diverted to Christchurch are being accommodated on the next available flights. Some have already departed and the last passengers are expected to be re-accommodated by 4pm, Harrison said.
