Firefighters have controlled a vegetation fire on a hill above central Wellington but are also battling another in Porirua this afternoon.
The first fire started just after 1pm in the city's green belt above Wellington East Girls College in the suburb of Mt Victoria.
It burned about 1 hectare before it was controlled, said Fire Service central communications shift manager Murray Dunbar.
There were no houses in the area and no one was injured, he said.
About 1.30pm firefighters were called to another vegetation fire, this time on a piece of land where trees had been felled in the suburb of Ascot Park, Porirua, north of Wellington.
Firefighters were still assessing the extent of the blaze, Mr Dunbar said.
