Wellington's East by West ferry will run restricted services today after one of its ferries was hit by a large wave yesterday morning.
The ferry was on a regular trip between Days Bay and Wellington when 44 passengers and crew had to be rescued from the damaged boat, which started filling with water when a wave smashed the front window.
There were no injuries but two passengers were taken to Wellington Hospital with hypothermia.
Today, the 10am, noon and 2.15pm sailings would go ahead as scheduled, but this evening's commuter sailings were restricted to 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30pm, an East by West spokeswoman told NZPA.
