Wellington commuters face major delays

Wellington commuters are facing major delays getting to work this morning after a car overturned on State Highway 1 north of the city.

The car was on its roof at the bottom of Ngauranga Gorge and was blocking all three southbound lanes, police communications team leader Kirsty Henson said.

Traffic was moving slowly past the scene on the shoulder, but it was backed up as far as Churton Park and there were substantial delays, she said.

Emergency services were at the scene.
