A central Wellington building was evacuated this afternoon after a first floor kitchen caught fire.
Seven fire trucks were sent to Wilford House on Molesworth St, opposite New Zealand Police National Headquarters, just after 3pm, central fire communications manager David Meicle said.
He said a fire had broken out in a kitchen on the first floor, prompting everyone inside the building to be evacuated.
The fire had now been contained, and the fire service was working on ventilating the affected area, Mr Meicle said.
