The death of a Wellington man found after a fire in an apartment near the central city last night was not suspicious, police say.
The man, in his 40s, was found unconscious in the carpark of Arlington Apartments in Hopper Street about 6.15pm. CPR was performed but he died at the scene.
Police told NZPA the man's death was not suspicious and he did not die in the fire. The two events were "closely approximate to each other", a spokeswoman said.
NZPA understood the man lived in the apartment which was on fire.
Police were still carrying out a scene examination to work out what happened and a post-mortem was expected to be completed today.
