Wellington Airport has reopened.
Twelve international and domestic flights were cancelled last night. Arriving flights were diverted to Christchurch and Auckland.
All flights trying to land from 6.30 this morning had to turn back because of fog.
Airport operations general manager Graeme Ware says the weather is clearing up and the backlog is starting to ease.
