Normal service resumed at Wellington International Airport today after heavy fog prevented planes from landing or taking off for much of yesterday.
An estimated 18,000 passengers had their travel plans disrupted with more than 300 flights cancelled or diverted.
The airport's duty manager Roger Beattie said today that he was sure that the airlines would do all they could to clear the backlog.
"There will be some delays because we have got to get airplanes in before they can take the passengers out."
