Team New Zealand have farewelled Alinghi in a television commercial filmed the day after they lost the America's Cup to the Swiss yacht.
The commercial, filmed at the Team NZ base on Monday, was shown during a documentary on Sir Peter Blake that night.
Tony Thomas, executive director of Team NZ, said the commercial was a gesture of good sportsmanship to Alinghi before they returned to Switzerland.
"We came up with the idea after we lost the race on Sunday.
"The reason for doing it was to give the nation a feeling we are great sportspeople and we thank [Alinghi] for being a great competitor ... They have raced well and we have recognised that as a team."
The commercial, featuring skipper Dean Barker, syndicate head Tom Schnackenberg, actor Temuera Morrison and singers Dave Dobbyn and Hinewehi Mohi, screens this morning at 6.05, 6.25 and 9.40 on TV1 and tonight at an unspecified time.
