Sanitarium may finally have solved the mystery behind recent changes to Weet-Bix.
The Herald on Sunday has been swamped with reader concerns about texture changes with the popular cereal.
The reactions were sparked by the Facebook page of a life-long Weet-Bix fan, 13-year-old Baje Charman: No More Australian Weet-Bix.
Sanitarium general manager Pierre van Heerden said this week the changes related to the company's Christchurch factory being knocked out by an earthquake, and extra production in Australia and Auckland to meet demand.
"We've discovered that Weet-Bix from Australia was being stacked on its side rather than vertically before transportation to New Zealand. This form of stacking may have compressed the product, making it more susceptible to crumbling. I am pleased to say that this issue has now been rectified."
