A wet spell during Anzac Day will clear away by the weekend as a front departs and a large high builds across the country.
MetService spokesman Daniel Corbett said, "After an up-and-down week of passing troughs and dry spells, a good-sized high will bring some fine weather for most of us this weekend."
While a high moves in on Saturday the temperatures will be cool, and parts of the South Island could be waking to frost in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.
The high will move off quickly, and wet weather will arrive in the West Coast of the South Island by Sunday afternoon.
This weather system will set the scene for a wet start to the upcoming week, with a band of rain moving across the country followed by a spell of persistent rain up the east coast accompanied by a brisk, cool southerly.
