Rain is in some forecasts for northern New Zealand this weekend but as you’ll see the computer models aren’t in agreement. While there is certainly a risk of rain and showers in the north the latest data suggests the weekend may be sunnier and drier than originally thought… good news for those heading to the beach, but perhaps not so flash for gardeners and farmers. There is rain on the horizon though – a low next week could bring in isolated heavy falls to northern and western areas.
Most of the country is in for fine weather this weekend, the MetService says.
The subtropical low that has been moving around New Zealand over the past couple of days looked like it would drift offshore and take the bulk of the rain with it, the forecaster said.
The partsof the country in for wet weather would escape with just a few showers over the weekend.
MetService said a weak anticyclone over the country would instead bring early cloud, especially to the east coast of the South Island, followed by mostly dry and fine conditions for the afternoon.
The weather for Sunday's Santa Parade in Auckland should be okay with just a small risk of an isolated shower.
