Four people died on the country's roads at the weekend.
Among them a young Wellington woman died after a hit-and-run incident yesterday morning.
Amy Margaret Edward-Mintorn, aged 23, was crossing Cambridge Tce, near College Street, in the central city about 1.40am when she was struck by what is believed to be a white Subaru WRX two-door coupe.
A second vehicle, travelling close behind the Subaru, also hit Ms Edward-Mintorn.
She was admitted to Wellington Hospital with multiple injuries but died at 5.50am yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, of the Wellington CIB, said police were on the hunt for the driver of the white Subaru.
A 62-year-old Tauranga woman died on Saturday in a head-on car crash near downtown Tauranga.
Athena Thomson, who was driving alone, died on the way to hospital, police said.
The accident occurred near the Chapel Street bridge when another vehicle veered into Ms Thomson's lane.
Police said the offending vehicle hit a car in front of it, towing a trailer, before crossing the centre line.
In west Auckland, one person was dead after a car rolled and crashed into a power pole yesterday morning.
Inspector Matt Sillars said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, which happened at about 6am on Henderson Valley Rd.
Power in the area was temporarily disconnected and the road closed while emergency services attended the incident.
Police also attended a fatal crash on State Highway 1 in Woodend near Christchurch this morning.
A house bus and a car collided head on.
The male occupant of the car died as a result of injuries received in the crash.
A portion of SH1 was closed for several hours while emergency services attended the scene.
Police said they were unable to provide any further details as next of kin were yet to be advised.
