Weekend road crash victims named

Police have named the two people killed in road crashes at the weekend.

Christine Ann Parsons, 45, died on Saturday when her blue Honda Civic hit a tree on Beach Rd in Kaiapoi, 19km north of Christchurch, about 11.45am.

Police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and asked anyone who saw Ms Parsons' car prior to the crash to contact them.

Yesterday, a pillion passenger on a motorbike was killed after a collision with a car on State Highway 2, south of Makaraka, near Gisborne, about 5.30pm.

The dead man was Jason Quentin Whitney, a 25-year-old from Auckland.

Senior Sergeant Maui Aben today appealed to anyone who saw the motorcycle, a blue and white Yamaha YZF, prior to the crash to contact police.
