Police have named a 40-year-old motorcyclist killed in a head-on collision at the weekend.
He was Kevin Barry McCormick, of Christchurch.
Police said it appeared Mr McCormick died after crossing the centre line and colliding with a car on State Highway 1, south of Kaikoura, about 7pm Saturday.
A passenger in the car was taken to hospital with head injuries.
Mr McCormick was one of two people to die on New Zealand roads at the weekend.
A 20-year-old Ruatoki man died after getting out of a moving vehicle on Ruatoki Valley Rd in Eastern Bay of Plenty about 11pm on Saturday, Sergeant Ray Wylie of Whakatane police said.
Mr Wylie said police were still interviewing witnesses and the man's name would not be released until tomorrow.
