KEY POINTS:
The junk email explosion that crippled internet service providers at the weekend was still causing delays for 20,000 ihug customers yesterday.
Spokeswoman Cherie Lacey said they would have experienced up to 24-hour delays in receiving emails.
An increase in junk email and viruses overloaded the internet service provider's system last Friday. The junk emails bypassed the company's filtering system because they were disguised as images.
"Two hundred and fifty thousand emails were delayed on Thursday so we had to install a whole lot of new mail servers," said Ms Lacey.
