Plans to revive the seaside village of Browns Bay are being blighted by weekend graffiti.
Makeover proposals include opening the business area to the beach, which will be adorned by a $3.5 million boardwalk.
But local business association chairman Mark Sweeney said Browns Bay was one of North Shore City's "top areas ... for graffiti".
He said a possible deterrent was installing a closed-circuit television system, which would monitor the new promenade, for about $90,000.
The East Coast Bays Community Board and trusts in the area were being asked for support.
The Browns Bay police had given a letter of support for the project.
But city councillor Peter White, who owns a business in Browns Bay, had reservations about the cameras' deterrent value. He also voiced concerns about privacy for beachgoers and residents.
