They were Kuljinder Singh, a shop assistant, and Jagroop Singh, a student. Both were aged 22 and living in Papatoetoe. They are not related.
The crash happened at around 7.45am on Saturday when a Toyota sedan car travelling south collided with a truck and trailer unit heading north.
Kuljinder, the driver of the Toyota, and Jagroop, the front seat passenger, died at the scene.
The truck driver from Palmerston North was unhurt.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, an 11-year-old girl killed in a South Canterbury car crash yesterday has been named.
