Wedding crashers? Not us boss!

Scottish tourist Connor Robertson came to New Zealand in search of a holiday and somebody else's wedding.

The 22-year-old from Glasgow and his girlfriend, Karen McFarlane (24), are visiting friends in New Zealand as part of a three-week South Island tour.

Among the sights they hoped to take in was at least one New Zealand wedding - preferably with them in it.

Ms McFarlane had just started a new job as a lawyer in Glasgow when the couple decided to go on holiday, and got time off only after telling her new boss she had a New Zealand wedding to attend.

No such wedding existed, but they felt they had to prove they attended a real one. So on Saturday they did.

The couple were camping in Purakaunui Bay, in the Catlins, when a wedding party arrived in a bus and ''stumbled right across us'', Mr Robertson told the Otago Daily Times.

The Scots rushed over to introduce themselves to the happy couple, who invited them to pose for a few quick snaps.

Half an hour later, the Glaswegian wedding crashers also featured in the wedding party's official photo shoot on the beach.

Mr Robertson said it was the second wedding they had photobombed in four days, after loitering in the background of some newlyweds' photos being taken on the edge of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown.

He was confident the latest photos would be enough to convince Ms McFarlane's boss, and that their casual attire could be explained.

''I didn't really have time to go back and change into my suit, so I'm just going to say it was casual beachwear.''

The couple were in Oamaru last night, but were running out of time to see everything, he said.

''There's only so many places you can see when you've got to catch five bouquets a week.''
