Convicted murderer Clayton Weatherston is taking his appeal against his conviction to the Supreme Court.
Weatherston applied to the Supreme Court on July 15 for leave to appeal against his conviction and has 20 working days from that date to file written submissions in support of his application.
The Crown then has 15 working days to file submissions in response. After this, the Supreme Court will then consider the application for leave to appeal.
In June the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against his conviction for killing his ex-girlfriend.
Weatherston was found guilty of murdering 22-year-old Sophie Elliot in January 2008 in Dunedin and sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum non-parole period of 18 years.
