Weather warning for drivers

Harsh weather has prompted police to warn of treacherous conditions on some South Island roads.

State Highway 6 from Harihari to Haast is experiencing very strong winds and drivers are urged to take extreme care.

There is snow on State Highway 8 at Burkes Pass between Fairlie and Twizel. Snow has also closed the road at Lindis Pass between Omarama and Tarras.
