The sun is forecast to come out to play at this weekend's first big rugby match at Eden Park since the coronavirus pandemic brought the world of sport to a complete stop.
Those heading to the first Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa match to see the Highlanders and Chiefs in Dunedin tomorrow can expect a fine day, save for some morning frosts.
A temperature high of 10C and overnight low of 3C is on the cards, however, so those going to the game should wrap up warm for the 7.05pm kick-off.
Odd showers and periods of rain in Auckland won't help drought situation
Those in and around Auckland today will be in for some cloudy periods and the odd shower.
Tomorrow brings slightly gloomier weather conditions; as periods of rain are expected throughout the morning, afternoon and evening. A high of 15C is expected.
MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey said the rain tomorrow will not, however, be enough to help the drought situation.
"It won't really be [impacted]. There will be some dry spells still."
Glassey said a large front currently over the South Island this morning is due to move up towards the lower North Island later today.
A front bringing heavy rain weakens as it moves north in coming days. Cold air and a ridge of high pressure make for chilly conditions this weekend. Another system brings warmer and moister air early next week. Full details https://t.co/Yjbq0jxdqz ^AJ pic.twitter.com/LqANai2Wu9
That would result in quite settled and fine weather conditions in and around places including Palmerston North and Wellington tomorrow, he said.
Those in the capital can expect a brilliant day out tomorrow - with fine weather forecast for the rest of the whole weekend, save for some morning frosts.
Wellingtonians can expect a high of 11C and overnight low of 5C tomorrow.
"We are expecting frosts at the weekend - on Saturday and Sunday for the South Island and about Waikato downwards on Sunday," Glassey said.
Further south, there will be mainly fine weather - albeit with frosts - tomorrow; with morning cloud in Nelson, Marlborough and Southland.
The conditions are expected to be mostly the same on Sunday - save for showers developing about Fiordland and South Westland.
Temperature highs ranging around the 8C and 10C mark are forecast for many parts of the South Island - including in Nelson, Christchurch, Invercargill, Queenstown and Dunedin - while overnight lows are particularly cold in Christchurch, Invercargill and Queenstown.
Those areas are all in for overnight lows of about -3C tomorrow.
