The curtain came down last week on the Masterton Cycling summer programme and like so many other evenings the weather smiled on all concerned with mild and calm conditions, perfect for what was a massed-start road race
The event was staged over one lap of the Millars Road circuit, starting and finishing by the Gladstone Church and was followed by a large turnout of members at the Gladstone pub where the usual bragging took place, reinforcing how special the club is in both racing and socialising (and bragging).
The results emphasise how close the racing was throughout the entire field, with almost all riders finishing in bunches.
Fastest time and first across the line was recorded by Phil Sutherland in 46.35 followed by Devan Simmonds, Steve Brown and Mike Wilkinson in 46.36.
This compares with the same race one year ago, won by Mark Langlands in 42.39. Lesley Mouat confirmed her form by finishing as first woman in 46.39, beating Emily Luytens and Louise McCormack for second and third.
