People who have planned to go on holiday early next week should beware that the weather is turning nasty.
Metservice meteorologist Peter Kreft said heavy rain would be falling along the West Coast of the South Island on Monday and there would be rain in many parts to the North Island on Tuesday.
However, he said there would be soaring temperatures in the east of the South Island, with Monday's daytime highs reaching the low to mid-30s.
