Mixed weather is expected in much of the country this week with people being told to prepare for wind and rain to hit - as well as occasional warm conditions.
Gusts in parts of the country started to pick up yesterday in southern parts of the North and South Island, exceeding 100km/h in some areas in the past 12 hours.
Temperatures during the weekend were also unusual for this time of year, reaching near record highs in some places, said Weatherwatch.co.nz.
"The weekend saw a taste of summer returning for many places and yesterday three quarters of the country were in the 20s, which is a rare occurrence for the time of year".
The west to northwest flow was expected to continue this week, delivering more warm weather, said Weatherwatch weather analyst Richard Green.
