"It's spring-like temperatures in Auckland. It's a mixed bag really," he said.
Mr Doolin said Aucklanders should expect cooler temperatures this week than the past few days.
Wellington was fairly cloudy today with a few showers and a southerly expected to die out this evening.
Although the sun was expected to shine in Christchurch today, tomorrow would be a different story.
"Showers will develop late morning and some of those showers may be heavy with a chance of thunder and hail during the afternoon and evening time," Mr Doolin said.
"It's going to be a mixed bag."
It would be a similar story for much of the country this week.
"There's a southwesterly flow for the rest of the country for Tuesday and it will ease on Wednesday and the ridge of high pressure spreads from the Tasman.
"There are showers and it's cooler for Monday and Tuesday. The showers will dissipate and temperature will go higher slightly," he said.
