Almost 1000 people are still without power after four days in the cold and dark since last week's storm damaged more than 50 poles and downed kilometres of lines.
The wet and windy weather that blasted the country last week is set to continue. A severe weather watch warning of heavy rain has been issued for Kapiti, Horowhenua, Tararua, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland today.
Southland motorists are urged to be cautious as ice coats roads in Canterbury and Otago. Snow showers are expected to clear this afternoon on the Lindis Pass.
Rangitikei roads are still struggling under the impact of the weather. The Taihape-Napier Rd is closed due to snow and the Potaka Rd has been shut after slips and fallen trees blocked the route. Numerous other roads are down to one lane.
Later in the week the country will get twice-thrashed with two different fronts bringing rain. The first one on Tuesday will bring rain to northern parts of the country. The second front will bring heavy rain in Westland and eastern Bay of Plenty later in the week.
