Apart from a few cloudy periods in the north, the North Island is looking mainly fine.
"Really it's just the East Coast - places like Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne - that are getting significant showers.
"Further south we do have a front approaching but it's really only going to affect the West Coast. A few cloudy periods around Banks Peninsula but they're clearing out as well."
Most of the main centres - including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch - will get temperature highs in the low to mid teens.
Tomorrow, however, the front near the West Coast will move over central New Zealand during the evening, bringing wet weather.
The West Coast will get heavy rain and eastern parts of the South Island scattered falls and increasing cloud, trapping the heat in, meaning temperatures - particularly overnight - should be warmer on Sunday and Monday.
