Eight into four doesn't go.
That's the dilemma facing Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley as he ponders his starting line-up for his team's Central League match at Tawa on Saturday.
Keinzley has what could be labelled an embarrassment of riches in the defence with no fewer than eight players _ Waisake Sabatu, Pita Rabo, Graeme Craven, Pablo Moya, Carl Shailer, James Oxtoby, Aaron Spierling and Sakeo Valevou _ contesting for the four positions there.
''It's a nice headache to have, but it is a headache,'' Keinzley said yesterday.
''Obviously we'll be looking at form and fitness and who suits best the type of format we will be playing but, whatever, there are going to be some unlucky players sitting on the bench.''
Up front too there is a selection quandary with prolific goal-scorer Seule Soromon available again after missing last weekend's match with Olympic through a one-match suspension. The likelihood is he will join the in-form Campbell Banks in the striker's role with Andrew Abba either moving into midfield or starting as a sub.
Abba didn't have one of his best games against Olympic and may suffer the consequences of that but then again Keinzley could be loathe to overlook his dangerous mix of flair and speed.
Whatever the make-up of the Wairarapa United side against Tawa, however, one thing is certain: they need to secure maximum points after having gone three matches this season without a win. They are nine points adrift of front runners Olympic and Palmerston North Marist and a further loss would make their chances of overhauling them close to mission impossible.
''Yes, we have to win, no other result will be good enough,'' Keinzley said of the Tawa match. ''We have to get some momentum going. Every game is crucial from now on.''
Keinzley is aware though that Tawa will be confident after what has been a solid start to the season. They opened with a 3-1 win over Western Suburbs, lost to Lower Hutt City 3-6 and on Saturday edged out Petone 1-0.
There is no question, however, that of the two teams Wairarapa United have had much the tougher row to hoe to date with their defeats coming at the hands of the three teams rated as most likely to win the central league title ... Palmerston North Marist, Miramar Rangers and Olympic.
What's more, they have been hugely competitive in all three games despite not being at full strength in any of them and being on the end of some questionable decisions by match officials
After the Tawa game, Wairarapa United are at home to Napier City Rovers on April 24 and then away to Taranaki on May 2.
