A range of compact DC watermakers will be among several new products to be unveiled at next month's Auckland International Boat Show.
Westhaven marine engineering company General Marine Services says it will showcase the new Eco-Sistems watermakers on its stand at the Viaduct Events Centre.
According to director Roy Chalton, the models will appeal to a wider range of boat-owners. "While watermakers are often considered a 'must have' on virtually all sizes of cruising yachts, not everyone wants to, or is able to, carry a generator as well," he says.
"These new Eco-Sistems DC watermakers have been designed to suit those yachties who want a reliable source of fresh, clean water but who still want to run a quiet ship."
Chalton says the compact DC watermakers use Eco-Sistems' new high-pressure pump energy recovery system and are easy to operate, virtually silent and vibration-free.
"They are also very efficient, with models capable of producing between 30 and 90 litres per hour without putting any undue strain on the battery banks."
Chalton says another advantage is that the watermakers come in a modular package.
"This means the various components can be installed where they best fit rather than as a single bulky unit - a great advantage on smaller vessels where space is often at a premium."
He says securing the Eco-Sistems range has been a real coup. "They are leaders in DC watermakers and have over 3000 units in operation worldwide."
He added that the range is manufactured using highly resistant stainless steel and specially developed plastics, making them ideal for use in our harsh marine environment.
