The National Young 88 Championships off East Coast Bays top the list of on-the-water activity this weekend. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the class and there will be tough competition.
Defending champion Earle Williams will be sailing with a Team New Zealand crew, and Ross Field's News Corporation Volvo 60 campaign has chartered a boat. Field, who sailed Paddy Wagon, the first Y88, in the Round North Island race 20 years ago, will be aboard. Other highlights:
Today: Squadron Passage Race to Te Kouma, including classic yachts (RNZYS); Age Regatta, Lake Pupuke (MBSC); Devonport Cruising Club (DYC); Canterbury Gold Cup prizegiving (RAYC).
Today and tomorrow: Bucklands Beach Two-handed Series continues (BBYC); Ponsonby Challenge, teams racing (PCC); Auckland Laser Championships, Tamaki (TYC).
Tomorrow: Richmond Single-handed Race (RYC).
* Clubs planning an event on either the Waitemata or Manukau harbour should register with Enviroline on 0800 80 60 40.
