Aucklanders are still using less water than usual, staving off the threat of having to boil water after heavy silting reduced capacity at the Ardmore water treatment plant this month.
Watercare said the region used 409 million litres of water on Monday, up from 399 million litres on Sunday, but below the 419 million litres used on Monday last week and well below the usual average of 450 million litres a day.
The company is still asking households to save 20 litres a day, an eighth of their normal use, until the Ardmore plant can be brought back to full capacity during the next few weeks.
"The response we're seeing from Aucklanders to our 'Save 20' message is heartwarming," said Watercare chief executive Raveen Jaduram.
"We're a big city and yet we're proving that in times of need, we can come together and do our bit to preserve the health and well-being of our diverse community."
