Signs warning swimmers that one of the city's most popular beaches was off-limits after a bacteria scare have been removed.
Auckland Council posted the signs at Takapuna Beach, Clarks beach and Laingholm beach earlier this week after tests showed the level of bacteria in the water could be a risk to human health.
Tests done today showed safe water quality readings and all beaches were safe to swim in.
"The tests were for Enterococci, which is an indicator for other bacteria that may be harmful to health," said Marcus Herrann, manager regional and environmental control at Auckland Council.
Herran said Takapuna Beach's first reading showing the bacteria was unusual due to the generally good results.
