Water main causes flooding Paihia

A burst water main caused flooding in Paihia early yesterday.

Several homes and motels were affected, with reports of water flowing through motel units, said Inspector Ian Brooker of the police northern communications centre.

"Due to the amount of mud and water, it was initially thought that heavy rain might have caused a reservoir dam to burst above the affected streets," he said.

"However, the burst main was quickly located by emergency services called to the scene."
