The police complaints authority will investigate a police pursuit that ended dramatically when the car they were chasing crashed into a lamp post and caught alight.
Police said they pulled all four occupants from the burning car.
A 14-year-old girl was earlier reported as critically injured, but she is now described as having moderate injuries.
Police said the car failed to stop at 1.30am following a speed check.
Police then chased the car through Otara's central business district, but it lost control and hit a concrete lamp post, knocking it over.
Senior Sergeant Shawn Rutene said the car rolled on its side and burst into flame.
The Fire Service sent two fire engines to the scene. The car was on fire, but not completely engulfed.
All passengers were taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Inspector Kerry Watson said the incident would be investigated by the police complaints authority.
