What makes New Zealand? Is it the people? The landscape? A shared history? Our obsession with rugby?

The Herald wanted to find out. So David Fisher and Mark Mitchell travelled from Bluff to Cape Reinga in a campervan. The resulting series, Who We Are, aims to explain what it means to be Kiwi in 2016.

This is part of a series of mini-documentaries about the themes that unite and - sometimes - divide us.

In it we focus on our ability to wrest a living from this Land of Plenty - a nation in which farming has always been considered a cornerstone of our existence.
