A treasured watch belonging to a New Zealand airman has been returned to his family 64 years after he was shot down over the Netherlands.
Flight Sergeant Glen Smith was killed during World War II when the Stirling bomber he was in was attacked by German night-fighters and crashed near Bentelo.
Mr Smith and another New Zealander, Sergeant Leonard Moss, were killed when the aircraft crashed, together with five British airmen.
The bodies of Mr Smith and two other crewmen were buried in a nearby village, but the bodies of the remaining crew, including Mr Moss, were not found until last year.
Yesterday their remains were buried with full military honours beside Mr Smith at the Ambt Delden cemetery.
